Varsity Basketball Coach at Avoca School District 37

The Varsity Basketball Coach is responsible for leading and managing the middle school varsity basketball program. This includes planning and running practices, teaching basketball fundamentals, fostering teamwork and sportsmanship, and preparing student-athletes for competitive play. The coach will model positive character, maintain high expectations for student behavior, and ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.

Responsibilities:

• Plan and conduct practices that build skills, strategy, and teamwork.

• Supervise and coach during games, tournaments, and practices.

• Promote sportsmanship, effort, and positive conduct on and off the court.

• Communicate effectively with athletes, families, and school staff.

• Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategy, and rules.

• Experience coaching or playing basketball preferred.

• Strong communication and leadership skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and staff.

• Must meet all district and IHSA coaching requirements.
