Sasha Bruce Youthwork (SBY) is the leading provider of homeless youth services in the DC region. For more than 50 years, SBY has provided safe homes, life skills, and workforce development for vulnerable youth. Our programs reach over 5,000 runaway, homeless, abused, and neglected youth and their families annually.

Position Summary

The Housing Navigation Specialist supports young people (ages 18–24) at SBY’s 8th St Drop-In Center by helping them identify and secure safe, affordable housing. Reporting to the Program Director, this position builds relationships with landlords and housing providers and guides youth through the housing search and move-in process, with the ultimate goal of increasing housing stability. Additionally, the Drop In Center is open until 7 PM at night and at least one weekend a month. Availability for occasional evenings and weekends is required.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Develop individualized Housing Stability Plans addressing barriers and outlining steps toward stable housing

· Assist youth with housing search, applications, lease understanding, and move-in coordination

· Conduct home inspections and educate clients on tenant rights, responsibilities, and lease agreements

· Facilitate workshops on housing topics (e.g., budgeting, credit, maintaining an apartment, tenant rights)

· Build and maintain relationships with landlords, realtors, and housing programs to expand housing options

· Mediate tenant-landlord concerns and provide ongoing support to maintain housing stability

· Provide referrals for additional services (e.g., mental health, legal, financial literacy)

· Participate in team meetings, consultation with clinicians, case managers, and other staff

· Complete timely and accurate documentation of services in client case records

· Participate in staff training, community outreach, and events, ensuring required trainings are completed annually;

· Provide crisis intervention and on-site counseling as needed

· Work occasional evenings or weekends as needed

· Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human services, business, or related field

· At least one year of experience relevant to housing and homelessness services

· Knowledge of housing systems, subsidies, and the local housing market

· Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

· Commitment to trauma-informed care, racial equity, and inclusion

· Reliable transportation and ability to pass background checks;
