The Programmer Analyst will design, develop, test, and maintain Electro Rent's legacy ERP and internal business systems while supporting modernization efforts. This role requires deep expertise in legacy ERP MultiValue systems, programming languages such as BASIC, UniVerse, and SQL, as well as the ability to troubleshoot complex system issues. The Programmer Analyst will partner with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions, enhance system performance, and contribute to long-term IT transformation initiatives.
Responsibilities:- Design, develop, and maintain applications and enhancements within Electro Rent’s legacy ERP and internal systems, primarily Blacksmith (4GL), BASIC, U2/UniVerse, SQL, and Visual Basic.
- Write, optimize, and troubleshoot queries, stored procedures, and scripts to ensure system efficiency and accuracy.
- Perform system analysis and programming to deliver solutions aligned with business needs.
- Collaborate with technical and business teams to translate functional requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Conduct testing, debugging, and performance tuning to ensure application reliability.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, logic, and system diagrams.
- Provide end-user support by resolving application and data-related issues.
- Participate in system modernization and migration projects.
- Recommend improvements to existing systems, coding standards, and development practices.
- 10+ years of experience as a Programmer Analyst, Software Developer, or similar technical role.
- Strong working knowledge of: Legacy ERP MultiValue systems (preferably UniVerse) or PICK bd program.
- BASIC
- SQL (any flavor; MS SQL preferred)
- Unix/Linux environments and shell scripting (BASH/Bourne)
- 4GL experience required. (preferably Blacksmith or SystemBuilder).
- Proven ability to design, code, test, and implement solutions.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills for resolving complex system issues.
- Experience supporting system integrations and data exchanges between legacy and web-based systems.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks/projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field preferred.
- Experience in Python is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with enterprise reporting tools and dashboards (Power BI or similar).
- Understanding of inventory, leasing, or equipment management processes.
- Exposure to large-scale data processing, batch jobs, and automation.
- Basic system administration knowledge in Linux, Unix, or Windows environments.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Hybrid: Required in West Hills, CA office 3 days/week (Tues, Wed, Thurs).
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer.
- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional travel may be required for project or team collaboration
- Communicate effectively, both in person and on the phone.
- Use keyboard or equivalent equipment, to access the computer.
Supervisory Responsibilities (if any):
This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Travel Requirements:
Minimal travel required, less than 10%.
