The Autopsy Attendant manages the operation of the hospital morgues and is the diener for autopsies. Communicates with Patient Placement the status of each descendant. This position manages pathology specimens archive and destruction. Working under direct supervision, this role is responsible for providing compassionate support to the family of the deceased, offering guidance and empathy during a challenging time. Supports the Medical Examiner processes for the County and State.
Responsibilities
Fills and delivers specimen containers to operating rooms and endoscopy departments to ensure timely and effective service to support efficient diagnosis and treatment.Maintains the morgue and cooler space, adhering to hospital environmental standards and ensuring the availability of necessary supplies to create a safe and organized working environment for accurate and respectful handling of deceased individuals.Manages the intake and release process of bodies in the morgue, maintaining proper documentation and following established protocols to ensure accurate records and regulatory compliance.Handles biohazardous and chemical wastes generated in the morgue and associated labs to ensure safe disposal practices to protect staff, patients, and the environment from potential hazards.Prepares and stores tissue samples with accurate labeling, following hospital policies and applicable regulations to maintain integrity and traceability of specimens for accurate pathology analysis.Assists the Pathologist in preparing the body for autopsy, facilitating efficient and timely procedures to support the accurate determination of cause and manner of death.Provides compassionate support to the family of the deceased, guiding them through the necessary steps for the final disposition of the body to ensure sensitivity and empathy during a difficult time.Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:Required: High School Diploma or equivalentEXPERIENCE:Required: 1 year in Gross Anatomy environmentLICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Drivers License
