ELECTRIC SUB RELAY TEST TECH at Fayetteville Public Works Commission

Fayetteville Public Works Commission (PWC) is seeking an Electric Substation Relay Test Technician to ensure the efficient operation of transmission and substation systems through the installation, maintenance, and calibration of protective relays. This position is ideal for those with specialized technical expertise and a commitment to safety and reliability.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Good knowledge of electrical theory, standards, and relay systems.
• Proficiency in methods, tools, and instruments used to install, repair, calibrate, and maintain protective relays.
• Skill in using calibration and testing equipment accurately.
• Ability to develop and maintain detailed reports and records.
• Strong computer skills and ability to use applicable software.
• Ability to oversee and prioritize work and people.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate degree or certification in electrical/electronic technology or related field, plus three (3) years of specialized experience in relay maintenance, repair, calibration, and testing.
• High school diploma or equivalent, plus five (5) years of specialized experience as defined above.
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and specialized experience will be considered.

Special Requirements:

• Must pass a Functional Employment Test (FET).
• Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.

Safety Hazards:

• Exposure to energized lines, heights, and a variety of weather conditions.

Protective Equipment:

• As required by the PWC Safety Manual.
