Position Overview

Chartis Federal is seeking a Senior GIS Specialist (6-Month Temporary Assignment) to support Air and Marine Operations (AMO). This role is structured as a six-month temporary position, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance. 


The Senior GIS Specialist will lead advanced geospatial analysis, mapping, and data integration efforts in support of AMO’s aviation and maritime mission. This position plays a key role in ensuring AMO has accurate, reliable geospatial insights to plan operations, optimize communications coverage, and maintain consistent site and frequency data across the enterprise.


Responsibilities

  • Lead GIS analysis and provide technical guidance for mapping AMO operational areas, coverage zones, and site configurations.
  • Develop advanced models and workflows to support aviation/maritime mission planning, site data integrity, and coverage visualization.
  • Oversee standards for site naming conventions, coverage layers, and data accessibility to ensure AMO staff can efficiently manipulate and apply geospatial products.
  • Mentor and guide junior GIS analysts, ensuring accuracy and consistency of deliverables.
  • Collaborate with AMO mission staff, engineers, and program stakeholders to deliver geospatial solutions that support operational readiness.
  • Prepare technical reports, visualizations, and presentations for AMO leadership.
  • Support compliance, operational, and planning documentation with GIS-driven data products.

Requirements

  •   Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred). 
  • Must have active DOD Secret clearance or DHS Tier 2 BI with up-to-date investigation.
  • 6–9 years of professional GIS experience supporting engineering, communications, or federal programs.
  • Expert proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, and geospatial databases.
  • Experience managing coverage data, site naming conventions, and integration with operational tools highly desire. 
  • Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
