SUMMARY: The Department Supervisor is responsible for departmental operations, production, safety and policy enforcement for the assigned department. The Supervisor will maintain department work schedules ensures proper documentation. Other responsibilities include ensuring daily reports are being completed accurately and timely, ensure Department weekly time sheets are properly filled out and approved. Work closely and assist in coordination of the activities involving maintenance. Plan and review departmental project work with the Production Manager. Administer HACCP and GMP policies. Schedule daily production schedules in CAT2 and M3 based on customer orders. Conduct daily meetings with department direct reports on KPI’s and Safety. Maintain high standards of excellence, attention to detail and the willingness/flexibility to work through peak work cycles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following:
- Overseeing day to day department operations, identifying problems and developing and implementing corrective and preventative measures.
- Ensure department personnel follow the established procedures for startup, operation, and shutdown of the department.
- Follow production reports and troubleshoot any issues during operation. Offers potential solutions and reports any issues daily to Production Manager.
- Ensure prescribed checks and monitoring of all operating equipment are carried out as required.
- Establishes and ensures that safety policies and procedures are always followed.
- Coordinate all employee activities and training for department, with the help of the training department.
- Maintain proper records and logs of activities and operating conditions, and down time.
- Prepare and maintain updated production schedules.
- Understand, support and help implement/maintain the Quality Management System (QMS), ERP, Operating Policies, and Daily’s safety programs.
- Understand, support and help implement goals and objectives, and continuous improvement plans and activities.
- Perform other duties and assignments as directed by Daily’s management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree preferred, (3) or more years related experience and/or training in supervisory roles. Prior experience in bacon production or further processed meats is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret in the English language correspondence, general business reports, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to write clear, accurate and concise reports and business correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, consultants, and technicians, and direct production reports. Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical formulas to practical situations.
OTHER SKILLS: Have informal contact daily with other department supervisor as well as production supervisors. Good organizational and writing skills necessary to track and document production reports.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to make decisions on routine matters of policies. Ability to define and solve practical problems, collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables in handling situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee will occasionally lift and/or move 25 lbs., seldom lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. The employee will be required to move about the facility, could be standing/walking on concrete floors up to 10+ hours per day, 6 days per week. The employee is required to sit, use hand to finger coordination; handle or feel objects, tools or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Standing, stooping, walking, bending, and climbing are all expected physical abilities, with or without accommodations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment varies from an office setting, production floor and outside climate conditions, depending on department assigned. Noise level may vary within areas of the plant. Must be able to tolerate cold (35 degrees or colder) and wet conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions in both inside and outside environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually at a level where OSHA required hearing protection is required.
