JOB SUMMARY

The Software Engineer, reporting directly to the Sr. Director of Center Operations/IT, is a skilled professional responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software applications and systems. The Software Engineer plays a key role in the software development lifecycle, contributing to the creation of software solutions that meet both business and technical requirements. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, analyzing user needs, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient software systems.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred but not required.
  • Relevant certifications in specific technologies or programming languages (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer, Oracle Java, AWS Certified Developer) preferred.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree if the candidate demonstrates strong coding and software development proficiency.

Experience

Software Development

  • Hands-on experience with both back-end and front-end technologies, including enterprise-wide systems.
  • Proficiency across the full software development lifecycle: requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

Engineering Best Practices

  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles and best practices, including coding standards, peer code reviews, version control, build processes, and operations.
  • Experience ensuring code quality, scalability, and maintainability in complex systems.

Collaboration & Influence

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence other developers to adopt best practices.
  • Experience working effectively with cross-functional teams and contributing to team-based decision-making.
  • Proven ability to connect with users, technical teams, and leadership to deliver software solutions aligned with business needs.

Skills & Abilities

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (C, C++, C#, Java, SQL).
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, including UI, service, data storage, and communication layers.
  • Solid knowledge of computer science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis).
  • Experience with both front-end and back-end technologies, as well as enterprise-wide systems.
  • Familiarity with software engineering best practices (coding standards, code reviews, version control, build processes, testing, deployment, and operations).

  • Strong judgment, decision-making, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to analyze user needs and translate them into technical requirements and solutions.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure software systems comply with organizational, industry, and regulatory standards for security, privacy, and data protection.
  • Implement secure coding practices and monitor systems for vulnerabilities.

Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Develop and execute unit tests, integration tests, and automated test scripts to ensure product quality.
  • Collaborate with QA teams to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve defects.

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including system designs, APIs, workflows, and user guides.
  • Share knowledge with peers through code reviews, mentorship, and technical presentations.

Innovation & Continuous Improvements

  • Research and recommend emerging tools, frameworks, and technologies that support innovation and organizational growth.
  • Continuously evaluate system performance and scalability, implementing improvements as needed.

User Support & Training 

  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal users or stakeholders.
  • Train end-users on new features or systems as needed to ensure smooth adoption.
