Starting Pay Range - $27.04 - $31.16 /hr

Summary:

The Skills Trainer is a core member of the Program for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) team, providing structured, recovery-oriented skills development to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI). This bachelor’s-level position focuses on helping clients build independent living, coping, interpersonal, and health management skills in both group and individual settings. Services are primarily delivered in the community, including clients’ homes, shelters, and public spaces.

The Skills Trainer works under the supervision of a licensed clinician and contributes to the team’s interdisciplinary approach to recovery and client-centered care. 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Skills Development

  • Provide one-on-one and group skills training in areas such as: Medication self-management; budgeting and financial literacy; meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking; hygiene, housekeeping, and personal organization; social and interpersonal communication; coping strategies and emotion regulation; and community navigation (transportation, appointments, social resources)
  • Support clients in practicing and generalizing skills in real-world settings through in vivo interventions.
  • Use evidence-based treatment modalities to establish therapeutic rapport and facilitate active engagement in treatment and guide treatment planning. 
  • Collaborate and coordinate care with other treatment providers and help connect with legal, court, and community resources.
  • Provide crisis support with development of crisis and safety plans.
  • Help clients connect to community health care providers and assist with medical and dental appointments.
  • Offer education about mental illness and treatment to clients, family members and other significant members of the client’s support system.
  • Coordinate care with relevant internal and external providers and informal supports.
  • Possess knowledge of client rights and ensure an atmosphere that allows for consumer privacy, dignity, and well-being in a safe and secure environment.  

Team-based Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in daily team meetings and treatment planning, sharing client relevant updates and goals.
  • Contribute to the strengths-based team culture including multidisciplinary collaboration, cross-training, and integrated care. 
  • Document services promptly in the electronic health record (EHR) and additional programs, following fidelity and compliance standards.
  • Demonstrate competence in utilizing Microsoft Suite, cell phones, and other technology.
  • Promote client self-determination and recovery through strength & harm-reduction based engagement.
  • Participate in supervision and case consultation as indicated. 

Additional Job Functions:

  • Supports agency mission, goals, and objectives while adhering to agency policies & procedures; HIPAA compliance; safety standards; infection control procedures; TMACT Fidelity standards; and applicable federal/state regulations.
  • Maintain effective communication and cooperative working relationships both within the agency and community at large, while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Licensing and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mental health or related field required
  • Must possess and maintain an active Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC) credential prior to start date, or be eligible and willing to obtain it within 30 days of hire as a condition of employment.
  • Experience working with individuals with Psychotic Disorders or SPMI is preferred
  • Training and experience with cognitive behavioral therapy for psychosis is preferred. 
  • CBTp Training complete within 6 months of hire. This training will be provided.
  • PACT Clinical Supervisor approval/ competency demonstration to provide skills training within 6 months of hire.

Other Requirements

  • Participation in on-call rotation, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and independently.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle required with willingness to transport clients as appropriate.
  • Must meet agency vehicle insurance requirements.
