About the Department
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.
DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Health Department
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
LOCATION: 825 L St. Anchorage, AK 99501
Position Duties
Performs a full range of administrative duties, including but not limited to answering telephonic inquiries regarding homelessness program projects, assignment of projects to program staff, oversee P-card expenses and tracking log, compile telephone log and/or other reports to track program expenditures, keep internal database of grant payments and revenues to date. Order supplies, contact vendors on status of orders, and maintain supply cabinet, fax/printer cartridges, paper and other critical office equipment and computer supplies. Oversees publication of reports and arrange for public notices in coordination with staff, schedule meetings and locations for public hearings and public meetings. Coordinate with Program Manager and/or Division Manager on scheduling meetings with AHD Director, AHD executive staff, other municipal department leaders, partner agency representatives and key community leaders.
The Anchorage Health Department (AHD) engages in the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (AHD) emergency responses and the federal Incident Command System (ICS). This includes training exercises as part of the AHD's Crisis Health Action Team (CHAT) and municipal Emergency Operations Center (EOC). In the case of a natural or manmade disaster, AHD employees may be called to engage in emergency operations responses and recovery.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in office clerical work.
OR
Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, Computer Information Systems or similar discipline and experience in office clerical work.
Ability to type at a net speed of 35 WPM.Other Qualifications
Preference will be given to returning Seasonal Employees who are eligible for Recall as per AMEA 3.14.8, and to any current Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. Recalled and AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
