About the Department
Responsible for providing winter grooming services using a snow-cat or snowmobile, signage maintenance, general maintenance, record keeping & upward reporting of completed work. Performs trail work in both fall/spring and winter conditions including limbing and bucking of trees & installation of signage, kiosks, or markers.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Outdoor Recreation Manager and direct supervision from the Trails Program Manager.
Position Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Groom winter trails using a Snow-Cat or snowmobile and associated grooming equipment, both during the day and at night.
- Perform signage maintenance and installation.
- General trail maintenance in both spring/fall & winter conditions.
- Monitor activities on trails and provide public information.
- Perform upward reporting on work completed and to meet state grooming requirements.
- Drive vehicles used to transport materials, tools, and equipment as required.
- Perform maintenance and construction on the Mammoth Lakes Trail System.
- General maintenance as needed, e.g. restroom cleaning and recreation site maintenance.
- Perform duties in a responsible manner independent of direct supervision.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Standard practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in trail construction and maintenance work.
- Occupational hazard and safety precautions.
- Safe work practices.
- Experience with snow-cats and snowmobiles a plus.
- Chainsaw experience a plus.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
- Work with others as part of a team.
- Use a variety of maintenance equipment and materials.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Be present and available for work.
