Corning Credit Union is seeking a Paralegal to join our Risk Management Team.

Role Summary: The Paralegal is primarily responsible for supporting Corning Credit Union and in-house General Counsel in performing legal research and due diligence.

Essential Job Duties 

In addition to providing exceptional service and adhering to all Credit Union performance standards, department service standards, and the Leadership Commitment, the following job duties apply:

  • Assists with legal administration, due diligence, conducting research and drafting documents under the direction of in-house counsel.
  • Coordinates with outside legal firms on various legal matters and tracks matters to completion.
  • Manages the intake and review of trust agreements, power of attorney, guardianship and representative payee documents submitted for member accounts.
  • Maintains strong knowledge of applicable products and services
  • Stays abreast of applicable regulation and internal procedures to ensure a consistent and accurate review of documentation
  • Conducts initial review of contracts and associated NDAs, supports General Counsel and the internal owner of the vendor relationship with outreach and communication during contract negotiations, as needed.
  • Provides support for loss mitigation and collection activities, as needed.
  • May assist with the fulfillment of subpoenas, levies, and restraints.
  • May assist the Loan Processing function with UCC and lien filings during peak volumes.
  • May assist the Compliance Officer with various research and documentation needs.
  • Also assumes responsibility for other projects or duties as required or assigned.

Education Requirements

  • An Associate Degree in paralegal studies or a certificate from an ABA-accredited program required. Certified Paralegal (CP), CORE Registered Paralegal (CRP), or other similar designation desired.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum two years of experience working as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant required. Experience working in that capacity within the financial services or banking environment desired.

Communication Skills Requirements

  • The ability to read and comprehend moderate to advanced instructions and correspondence.
  • The ability to write moderate to advanced correspondence within professional etiquette standards.
  • The ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations.

  • Lifting requirement exceeds 10 pounds. (15 if MSR, 20 for IT, 30 Facilities)
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus from close range to long range.

Compensation - The Paralegal pay range is $26.44-$37.50 per hour. Hiring rates are dependent on several factors, including years of related work experience, education, and geographic location. Corning Credit Union also offers an annual bonus plan as part of its comprehensive compensation package. Additionally, most roles have further levels providing added growth opportunities and earnings potential.
