Position:
As a leader at Discovery Cube, the Director of Marketing will oversee and support all aspects of the organization’s marketing and communications strategy for both our Orange County and Los Angeles campuses.
The Director will play a key role in driving digital-first initiatives to strengthen engagement and grow audience reach. Working closely with the greater marketing team, this position will support both campuses along with partner-related promotions, large exhibit campaigns, and select museum events.
This role reports directly to the VP of Marketing and works collaboratively with internal teams to ensure cohesive and impactful storytelling across all digital and traditional platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee brand and reputation management across PESO (paid, earned, shared, and owned) channels, managing all marketing and content efforts for Los Angeles and Orange County.
- Lead integrated marketing efforts across digital, social, advertising, email, website, media/PR, and events.
- Help meet revenue goals for attendance, membership, contributions, facility rentals, and programs.
- Create and implement paid advertising plans and budgets, leveraging Google Analytics, SEO/SEM, and audience insights to optimize performance.
- Manage content creation, creative design, and distribution of online content, press releases, advertisements (print, broadcast, digital, and out-of-home).
- Develop strategies and creative briefs, overseeing production of all print and online collateral including seasonal campaigns, new exhibits, fundraising appeals, and educational program marketing.
- Partner with the VP of Marketing to manage all financial and operational aspects of the marketing department, including annual budget development, monitoring, and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Communications, Business, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in marketing, advertising, digital media, and public relations with a proven record of increasing brand visibility, driving revenue, and boosting audience engagement.
- Demonstrated success in planning and executing integrated PESO) campaigns across digital, social, email, PR, advertising, events, and community partnerships.
- Strong experience developing and managing annual marketing budgets of $1M+ with responsibility for meeting revenue and expense commitments.
- Proficiency with digital marketing tools including Google Analytics, Google Ads, SEO/SEM, email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp), and social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout), MS SharePoint and Office 365
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft messaging across diverse platforms, prepare press releases, and provide strategic counsel to leadership.
- Strong understanding of marketing metrics, measurement, and reporting to evaluate campaign effectiveness and optimize results.
- Keen attention to detail and ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- Agency experience strongly preferred; bilingual in Spanish a plus.
- Ability to support an organization open 7 days a week, including occasional early morning or evening programs (TV interviews, photo shoots, special events, etc.).
- Passion for science education and enthusiasm for contributing to a dynamic, innovative, and community-centered organization.
