Job Description Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Conway Public School District
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Obtain (within 6 months) or maintain current certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCABA) issued by the Board Analyst Certification Board (BACB). The District will provide guidance on the initial and ongoing certification process as needed
Complete district provided crisis intervention training
Effective written and oral communication skills
Experience with basic curriculum knowledge including mathematics, reading, and writing in a K-12 school environment preferred
Significant experience working with students with problem behaviors including autism preferred
Physical Requirements:
Be able to walk short distances to escort children between classrooms and activities
Be able to sit, stand, lean, reach, bend, lift (<50 lbs.) and kneel to assist students and apply appropriate crisis intervention techniques
Be able to walk on uneven surfaces (playground)
Be able to walk up and down stairs
Be able to run on uneven surfaces (playground)
Be able to run up and down stairs
Be outside in all weather conditions for assigned duty
In district travel required, reliable transportation is needed
Reports to: Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA) and Director of Special Education
Supervises: Not applicable
Terms of Employment: The contract length will be 185 days. Salary Schedule N.
Evaluation: Based on Conway School District policy and Division of Elementary and Secondary Education guidelines, and performed by the Director of Special Education.
Job Goal: The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), under the direct supervision of the Behavior Support Coordinator (Board Certified Behavior Analyst), assists in the implementation of behavior intervention programs and push-in services for students with behavioral needs with a wide variety of age ranges at various sites throughout the district, monitors and collects data on behavior, documents progress, and collaborates with school staff to coach and implement behavior interventions.
Performance Responsibilities:
Understand and apply the basic principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) in classroom settings as directed
Effectively communicate with team members
Provide direct skills instruction to students using behavior reduction protocols based on principles of ABA
Assist with the implementation and monitoring of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and tiered interventions under the close, ongoing supervision of a BCBA
Provide modeling and training to teachers and paraprofessionals on how to implement BIPs and interventions
Assist school teams with observations and data collection for assessments and tiered interventions as directed by a BCBA
Collect and monitor ongoing behavior data
Implement and promote positive behavior intervention supports throughout the District, including systems at individual school sites
Assist in creating and/or adapting classroom tasks, materials, and curriculum to meet students’ educational and behavioral needs
When necessary, provide intervention for students demonstrating unsafe behaviors
Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other special education laws, regulations and procedures.
Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and evidence based practices and interventions
Understanding of and familiarity with the characteristics for a wide variety of disabilities including, but not limited to, autism, intellectual disability, emotional behavioral disorders, and ADHD
Knowledge of crisis and behavior management strategies and multi-tiered systems
Understand the needs of students with learning, developmental, and behavioral disabilities and effectively relate to learning situations
Maintain the security and confidentiality of records and information
Exercise tact, patience, courtesy, and good judgment in dealing with students and staff
Exercise flexibility to respond to emergency and/or unforeseen situationsOther duties as assigned
