Position Overview
Bloomfield Public Schools is seeking a highly motivated and student-centered Library Media Specialist for Bloomfield High School. The Library Media Specialist will foster a culture of literacy, inquiry, and innovation by integrating library and media services into the academic program. This educator will collaborate with staff, support instructional technology, partner with families and community organizations, and help students develop the skills to be critical thinkers, responsible digital citizens, and lifelong learners.
Responsibilities
Manage and maintain the school library program, resources, and services to meet the diverse needs of students and staff.
Collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver instruction in research, information literacy, and digital citizenship.
Provide leadership in the use of instructional technology and digital learning tools.
Teach students how to locate, evaluate, and ethically use information from print and digital sources.
Curate diverse and inclusive resources that reflect student voices and support curriculum goals.
Promote reading for enjoyment and academic growth through programming, book clubs, and schoolwide initiatives.
Oversee library operations, including circulation, scheduling, and budget management.
Support staff with instructional resources and professional learning in technology integration.
Engage families and community partners (such as public libraries, local organizations, and cultural institutions) to expand learning opportunities and connect students with real-world resources.
Qualifications
Connecticut State Department of Education certification as Library Media Specialist (Endorsement #062) required.
Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology, digital tools, and library/media best practices.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
