Primary Function: The job of Family Services Coordinator was established for the purpose/s of assuring parents and community members become active participants in student achievement. The Family Services Coordinator will collaborate with parents to help the school achieve its continuous improvement targets as well as short and long-range goals; assists the school staff in achieving and maintaining the fully operational level of standards within the student, family, and community Involvement strand of the Georgia School Keys. The areas of responsibility within the student, family, and community involvement strand include the elements of communication, parenting skills, parents’ role in assisting student learning, parents’ sense of appreciation and comfort level at the school, parents as full partners, and community resources.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

1. Educational Level:

Bachelors degree in job related area or equivalent four year degree in Social Work, Human Resources or another related field.

2. Experience:

At least two years experience in Family Support Services or a Parenting Education Program:

Must have Valid Driver’s License

3. Physical Activities:

 Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities

4. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Written and oral communication; typing; communication; computer

    

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  2. Assists the school team in creating a standards-based newsletter or other publication that focuses on student work and progress toward meeting the Georgia Performance Standards for the purpose of raising academic achievement.
  3. Collaborates with school staff to establish a process that facilitates meaningful two-way communication between the school, parents, and community members for the purpose of emphasizing ways to support student achievement, provide positive feedback, and to address concerns related to student achievement.
  4. Completes and submits all Title I parenting documentation by designated deadlines for the purpose of following all guidelines that are established by GaDOE.
  5. Creates a list of activities in which parents and community stakeholders can participate as volunteers for the purpose of maintaining records that reflect increased involvement and support.
  6. Develops a collaborative partnership with family-based agencies, partners in education, and local institutions of higher learning that builds family capacity through education for the purpose of creating an atmosphere of collaboration that will impact student achievement.
  7. Develops a process for maintaining documentation of volunteerism within the school for the purpose of increasing stakeholder involvement.
  8. Establishes and maintains on-going, cooperative partnerships with families and the community for the purpose of supporting student learning and well-being.
  9. Maintains a comprehensive file of communications with families and, when appropriate, records detailed notes summarizing interactions for the purpose of ensuring the parenting program is a resource that addresses the many areas that may impact student achievement.
  10. Maintains an updated list of services and partnerships available to parents through the school and collaborates with families to help access community resources/services for the purpose of strengthening school and families and to remove barriers to student learning.
  11. Manages the lending of resources for parents and assures that parents are able to use these resources effectively for the purpose of increasing academic achievement.
  12. Offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for parents designed to support student learning for the purpose of increasing parent involvement.
  13. Organizes parenting resources in a space within the school provided for parenting for the purpose of ensuring the resources are readily available.
  14. Provides educational opportunities for building parent competency and capacity to meet identified needs (e.g. workshops on parenting styles and practices, expectations for student behavior, academic performance, and Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) tied to the specific age and developmental needs of the students) for the purpose of increasing academic achievement.
  15. Provides opportunities for parents to participate with their children in a variety of reading, writing, mathematics, and technology related educational activities designed to enrich student learning for the purpose of empowering parents with the information needed to support their child/children.
  16. Updates the Parent Involvement Policy and Home-School Compact at the beginning of each year and submits to Title I for the purpose of meeting all guidelines as established by GaDOE.
  17. Works with school leaders in providing opportunities for parents to take more active roles in supporting the school improvement planning process for the purpose of increasing a greater sense of accountability for all stakeholders.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
