The role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Developer to lead our London-based database development function. This individual will both manage a small team of database specialists and remain hands-on in database design, development, and optimization.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the fund’s data infrastructure is robust, scalable, and aligned with business needs. They will also oversee reporting and analytics delivery in Tableau, while driving improvements in data quality, performance, and usability. Experience with cloud technologies (AWS) will be considered an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Technology team, Quant team and Risk team to develop and refine reporting and analytics requirements
  • Design and implement efficient database schemas, tables, indexes, and stored procedures.
  • Manage and mentor a team of database developers and reporting specialists
  • Build and maintain database-driven reports, dashboards, and analytics using Tableau
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and high availability across environments
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, identifying slow queries, indexing strategies, and query plans
  • Work with Amazon RDS, Aurora and S3 to build scalable, resilient data platforms
  • Design, maintain, enhance ETL processes for all aspects of the firm’s positions, trades and pricing information
  • Collaborate with leadership on data strategy and architecture
  • Ensure regular database maintenance, including backups, recovery processes, and routine integrity checks
  • Implement database security best practices, including user permissions and roles
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of database structures, processes, and best practices

Requirements

  • At least 8 years working extensively with relational databases (T-SQL queries, schema design, stored procedures, views, functions)
  • Expertise in SQL and database performance tuning.
  • Proven experience in leading / managing teams in a high-performance environment
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience using Python for scripting database tasks, automating workflows, data extraction, and transformation processes
  • Proven experience designing normalized and optimized relational database schemas
  • Experience in performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, and troubleshooting database performance issues
  • Experience with Tableau or similar tools for reporting and data visualization
  • Experience in database maintenance tasks, backups, restores, security management, and disaster recovery
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders, including developers, analysts, and business teams, to gather requirements and deliver database solutions
  • Knowledge of AWS cloud services (RDS, Aurora, S3) is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with financial services environments is a plus
  • Operates with the highest degree of ethics and integrity.
