Location: Civic centre and other locations from time to time
We are looking for an enthusiastic and customer-focused Technical Officer to join our Housing Management team. In this role, you will provide expert inspections and technical support, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective repairs and maintenance across our residential properties. You will work closely with contractors, tenants, and internal stakeholders to maintain excellence in service delivery, customer satisfaction, and health and safety compliance.
- Inspections & Diagnostics: Undertake property inspections (pre- and post-works), diagnose faults, and specify repair solutions in a timely manner.
- Contractor Monitoring: Oversee day-to-day contractor performance through regular progress checks and quality assurance, escalating issues when necessary.
- Customer Liaison: Serve as a primary point of contact for tenants, ensuring any repair concerns or queries are resolved efficiently and to a high standard.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with health and safety regulations, building codes, and statutory requirements.
- Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate documentation of work orders, communications, and completed works using both office and mobile IT systems.
- Collaboration & Improvement: Work alongside colleagues to identify opportunities for service improvements and adopt new technologies to enhance service delivery.
- Emergency Response: Participate in an on-call rota to provide technical support outside normal working hours, responding effectively to urgent issues.
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant construction or building discipline (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, or general building).
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
Experience & Knowledge:
- Proven experience in building maintenance, repair, or similar roles within a local authority or social housing environment.
- Familiarity with contract administration, building regulations, and relevant health and safety standards (e.g., asbestos management, gas safety, damp/condensation issues).
Understanding of landlord repair responsibilities and leaseholder obligations.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, able to identify and address repairs effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build productive relationships with tenants, contractors, and colleagues.
- Good IT proficiency and experience in using mobile devices to manage work orders and record data in real time.
- Ability to manage a varied workload independently, with strong attention to detail and commitment to deadlines.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally as required.
