What will your role be?

The Communications & Society Manager role is an important role in the Corporate Relations function. It is both internally and externally facing shaping our external reputation, driving our corporate narrative with stakeholders, leading company-wide employee communications, and supporting the business drive a positive impact in society, including our critical agenda for Society 2030.

The role is designed to drive an ambitious agenda on Communications and Society elevating Diageo’s reputation, employee engagement and societal impact with stakeholders.  The role will communicate the story of Diageo Australia’s purpose, strategy, performance, brands, Spirit of Progress, culture and people to shape our reputation with key audiences.  It will drive Diageo’s contribution and impact in society helping to position the organisation as the most trusted and respected consumer goods company in Australia.  Further, this role will seek to take a whole-of-business approach on Society and Sustainability that protects our license to operate and enables win-win outcomes with customers, consumers, government and other stakeholders.
 

What does this role look like for you?

  • Communicate Diageo Australia’s unique story with refreshed corporate narrative aligned to the Growth Ambition across owned and earned media channels
  • Rebalance debate on alcohol and health in support of public policy goals
  • Partner across the business to build and protect Diageo's reputation and navigate critical issues
  • Engage every employee in our purpose, Growth Ambition, values and behaviours.  Cultivate visible & accessible leadership community supported by calendar of events & campaigns
  • Ownership, development and implementation of Diageo’s Society strategy
  • Support other functions on Society and Sustainability by enabling whole-of-business approach to Diageo’s positive impact in society through cross-functional collaboration, customer awareness and engagement, shaping industry initiatives and building reputation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement, including industry associations and customers - with these groups, the candidate will identify and execute on opportunities to increase awareness and build support for Diageo Australia’s corporate reputation and our society and sustainability initiatives, while also seeking opportunities for collaboration and support with key suppliers and customers which may in turn strengthen relationships, identify new commercial opportunities and drive reputation.  

What will you bring to the table?

  • Previous experience in communications, ideally within a corporate or an agency;
  • A strong Strategic thinker with the ability to join dots cross functionally;
  • Can translate how Communications and Society / Sustainability initiatives help drive commercial/performance and reputation outcomes;
  • Ability to influence other functions to deliver focused performance and business outcomes;
  • Strong collaborative, stakeholder engagement and communication skills; and
  • Resilient, agile and able to successfully navigate ambiguity and demonstrate understanding of complex social issues (e.g. role of alcohol in Australian society).
