Qualifications:
College hours, high school diploma or GED
Possess a valid Texas Operator’s License
Must possess a Fire Alarm Technician License
Must possess a Fire Extinguisher License Type A – Portables & Systems
Physically able to lift 50 pounds
Ability to lead and motivate a team, provide training and manage staff effectively.
Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with staff, students, the public and government agencies.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address fire safety challenges and recommendations
Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local building, life safety and ADA codes
Proficient computer skills and ability to utilize the software programs of the department
Experience in planning work methods and schedules
Ability to interpret plans, shop drawings, and specifications
Primary Purpose:
Ensure the physical safety of students and staff by proactively managing fire risks and maintaining compliance with essential safety standards. This role plays a critical part in protecting school facilities, preventing potential disasters and fostering a safe learning environment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- This is a working-supervisor position.
- Supervise technicians in performing preventative and routine maintenance on fire detection/alarms and fire suppression systems and other life safety systems.
- Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the operation and integrity of all district fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems and life safety equipment.
- Ability to utilize electronic test and programming equipment for diagnosing and repairs district fire and live safety systems.
- Assist other department supervisors when needed to address any deficiencies identified
- Take all safety precautions related to the trade.
- Perform repairs and/or new work as requested on approved work order requests.
- Plan, coordinate and complete annual inspections on all fire alarm, fire sprinkler and fire water back flow systems and submit all required documentation to all local municipalities and authorities to ensure district is compliant with all local and state regulations,
- Responsible for coverage of any fire alarm or life safety emergency calls.
- Establish feasibility of projects before initiating repairs or modifications by reviewing plans and specifications and inspecting job sites.
- Conduct walk through inspections of new or renovation work to ensure it meets district standards and specifications.
- Conduct follow-up inspections as needed.
- Work with the Directors and other departments in budget planning and identifying major components for replacements, repairs, and upgrades.
- Coordinate warranty requests between all District staff and contractors.
- Coordinate and/or assist with the Fire Marshall and area supervisors on campus inspections.
- Work with counties and municipalities to acquire necessary permits for department minor construction projects and portable building relocations.
- Coordinate outside contractor repairs with district staff.
- Attend professional development training.
- Perform fire alarm programming for non-proprietary systems.
- May be required to work overtime or alternate work schedules.
- Other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used:
Multi-meter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, and testing equipment; soldering iron; wire puller; pipe benders and threaders; hand and power tools (saw, drills, etc.) ladder, lifts, computer, copier, scanner, fax machine, and printer. Light truck or van.
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, around electrical power lines, outside and inside. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent districtwide travel.
