Job Description:

This position is critical to the department as the incumbent is to make fundamental contributions to the next generation of eco-hydrodynamic modeling software used to study biophysical feedbacks in deltas. The incumbent will be a member of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and the interdisciplinary Center for Computation and Technology (CCT). 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research in coastal processes by modeling biophysical and ecological processes in deltas using 2-D computational models; the incumbent will develop a computationally efficient coupling approach to design model validation scenarios with data, and to assess ecosystem engineering effects on vegetation establishment in a fast-growing delta in Louisiana. - 60%

  • Use software development and maintenance of open-source modeling software for https://github.com/murielbruckner/Dynamic-saltmarsh-microphytobenthos-model. - 20%

  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, supporting research group meetings, guiding student projects, and presenting occasional seminars and classroom presentations. - 15%

  • Other duties as assigned. - 5%

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Coastal Sciences, Computational Science, Engineering, or related field.

Specific Experience: Prior experience and strong motivation to continue work in hydrodynamic modeling, sediment transport, and/or marine ecology are desirable. Prior experience in model development, scripting, and/or the use of specific software, such as Delft3D, ANUGA, and python is preferable.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Coastal Sciences, or Computational Science.
