The role:
We are seeking to appoint an Energy Transactions & Risk Advisor to join our Energy Markets team. This role is suited to someone with 3 to 5 years of experience in energy market analysis, consulting, or trading, with exposure to electricity financial markets and renewable energy transactions.
In this role, you will contribute to the development and implementation of energy procurement strategies, risk management frameworks, and transaction advisory services for large commercial and industrial customers, as well as renewable energy developers and investors. You will work closely with the Energy Markets team to design and model energy contract structures and support clients in implementing long-term risk management strategies tailored to their specific risk appetite, portfolio characteristics, and operational capabilities.
You will also support client relationships and contribute to project delivery, collaborating with team members to ensure high-quality outcomes aligned with timelines and budgets.
Our services:
As a leader in energy and carbon markets risk advisory, we leverage our robust forecasting and quantitative risk analytics, in-depth knowledge of financial markets and risk management practices, and best-in-class renewable energy and storage contracting experience.
Energy commodity procurement and risk management: Actively managing a range of 100+GWh p.a. portfolio positions by progressively purchasing short-term hedges in both the energy and environmental commodities markets and managing our clients’ time-to-market risk in volatile market conditions.
Renewable energy transactions: Advising buyers, sourcing and negotiating corporate renewable Power Purchase Agreements under the form of financial contracts-for-difference or retailer-intermediated structured products.
Market, energy portfolio and hedging strategy: Advising renewable energy investors and developers, facilitating market entry, conducting investment due diligence, guiding risk-return trade-off decisions for new renewable energy and storage products, and shaping portfolio investment strategies.
Core Capabilities and Experience
We’re looking for candidates who bring the following core capabilities and experience:
- 3–5 years’ experience in energy markets, especially in power markets, risk advisory, or commercial structuring.
- Genuine interest in energy markets, especially electricity financial markets and the energy transition.
- Quantitative skillset, including experience with financial modelling, portfolio optimisation, and statistical analysis.
- Proficiency in MS Excel for financial modelling and exposure to Python for quantitative analysis.
- Project delivery experience, including coordination of tasks, managing timelines, and contributing to client satisfaction.
Preferred Profile Attributes
In addition to the core capabilities listed above, we value candidates who bring the following qualities and experiences.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders and deliver clear, concise insights.
- Familiarity with renewable energy transactions, including corporate PPAs and OTC derivatives.
- Understanding of Australian electricity markets, including wholesale pricing, contract structures, and regulatory frameworks.
- Educational background in finance, engineering, economics, commerce, actuarial studies, or mathematics.
