Cumberland County Public Library is dedicated to serving our community by providing access to information, resources, and engaging programs that inspire learning and connection. As a Library Associate, you will play a key role in helping customers discover materials, access information, and enjoy the many services our libraries have to offer. Position Duties
- Staffs a public services point
- Performs proactive reference at the service desk
- Assists customers with information and technology resources
- Performs basic troubleshooting of library equipment and trains others in the use of resources and equipment
- Assists customers with self-services checkout and account information at Circulation desk to include cash, check, and assisting others with online credit card transactions
- May go to the bank to pick up change for the change machine and/or cash register

- Knowledge of library procedures, collection management practices, library systems, and services
- Knowledge of readers’ advisory methods, tools, and sources
- Knowledge and ability to provide library information services and deliver customer assistance
- Knowledge of library card registration requirements and processes
- Skill in searching the online public catalog to locate and recommend materials
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with co-workers and the general public
- Ability to instruct customers in the use of equipment such as photocopiers, fax machines, Venda card dispensers, public computer reservation software, and self-checkout stations
- Ability to use computers effectively, accurately manipulate a keyboard, and spell correctly
- Ability to operate audiovisual equipment, online public access catalogs (OPACs), and navigate the Internet and specialized library databases to locate information
- Ability to initiate and perform basic troubleshooting procedures on computers, printers, copiers, and fax machines
- Ability to organize work efficiently and coordinate activities
- Ability to deal tactfully, courteously, and professionally with the public
