About the Department
The Assistant Program Coordinator in the Maternal Child Health program provides day-to-day supervision and caseload management of assigned program staff and activities and provides direct patient services, as required.
Scheduled Hours: 40 hours per week
Position Duties
- Assists the program coordinator with managing programs including supervising assigned staff, recruitment, hiring, training, problem solving, evaluations and disciplinary actions, if necessary.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the demographics and the needs of the populations served by programs.
- Participates in program planning, budgeting, and review, as assigned, and makes recommendations to improve program services and delivery.
- Assists with developing and implementing systems for evaluation of client and program outcomes.
- Recruits clients, receives and reviews requests for services and assigns them to appropriate staff. Assures appropriate caseloads for staff and timely service for clients.
- Monitors the supervisees’ workloads. In conjunction with other supervisory staff, assures quality of and quantity of work is appropriate.
- Provides day-to-day problem solving and clinical supervision of staff through supervised home visits, conferences, record reviews, and caseload reviews. Acts as a resource person to staff.
- Conducts ongoing performance appraisals of supervisees, as well as monthly feedback to staff regarding their work.
- Assures adequate client record keeping. Prepares beneficial and required narrative and statistical reports, as assigned.
- Coordinates and leads orientation and training of assigned staff and students in partnership with other program leaders. Identifies staff development needs and participates in the provision of such activities for supervisees.
- Assures implementation and compliance with State and local standards and regulations.
- Maintains positive working relationships with State and local officials, assisting with interpreting program needs and compliance.
- Regularly attends and participates in supervisory and program staff meetings, in-services, and internal work groups, as assigned.
- Leads and conducts program outreach in partnership with other program leadership and staff.
- Works with other program leadership to ensure that all program deliverables are met.
- Manages medical equipment.
- Provide client care in the home or other locations, when assigned.
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with other service areas and community organizations.
- Provides information and awareness to individuals and groups regarding public health nursing services.
- Works with other supervisory staff to provide support for program activities that occur outside of typical program hours.
- Displays a positive and respectful attitude, behavior, and demeanor toward management and coworkers in accomplishment of job duties.
- Accepts other duties necessary to meeting the overall goals of Prevention and MCH programs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse license with minimum two years’ experience providing either community health or maternal and child health nursing, or two years’ experience providing direct services to families with young children in a professional setting.
- Minimum two years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with experience in public health nursing preferred.
