About the Department
Leads personnel engaged in providing solid waste services to Avondale residents. Assists the Solid Waste Supervisor in the oversight and coordination of work schedules, planning for scheduled maintenance work, and other assigned activities of Solid Waste Equipment Operators.
Position Duties
Works with Supervisors to prioritize work assignments and may act as Supervisor in their absence. Assists in supervision and coordination of work schedules. Determines needed equipment and materials. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Performs administrative duties by filing and closing out work orders, responding to citizens requesting services, and resolving complaints. Maintains daily work records. Completes general paperwork as necessary.
Monitors and inspects completed work assignments for compliance with performance standards. Adheres to safety rules and guidelines to ensure crew and public safety. Assists with accident investigations or property damage.
Provides residential garbage and recycle pickup, bulk waste services, and residential container delivery.
Performs vehicle and equipment inspections to maintain safe operation and cleanliness. Tracks equipment and tools.
Maintains and safeguards the confidentiality of all employees, departmental information, and disciplines.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalency.
Work requires knowledge of DOT rules and regulations, and various equipment operations and maintenance.
Three (3) years of experience in solid waste or public work operations.
An Arizona Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required upon hire.
Other Qualifications
Work requires the ability to read equipment inspection logs, maps, timesheets, customer contacts, policies, procedures, and general correspondence.
Work may require the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition and subtraction.

Job has the responsibility to provide field leadership ensuring daily work assignments from the Solid Waste Supervisor are carried out. Requires the ability to properly manage time and assigned city resources.
Work involves choices of action within limits set by standard practices and procedures. Professional judgment is required to apply the proper course of action. The job will require handling confidential situations.
The incumbent in this position contacts others within the organization. These contacts may involve similar work units or departments within the City which may be involved in decision making or providing approval or decision-making authority for purchases or projects. Vendors and suppliers may also be called upon for information on purchases, supplies, or products. Meetings and discussions may be conducted with customers, brokers, and sales representatives. The employee must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
