Summary/Objective 

The Laboratory Clerk is responsible for performing clerical duties and assisting physicians and technologists in the day to day functioning of the Laboratory Department. 

Essential Job Duties

1. While using Standard Precautions, ensure that all specimens are appropriately labeled with patient identification, date and time of collection and initials of collector before processing in laboratory to ensure prompt TAT.
2. Receives and records telephone messages for the Department in a courteous and professional manner. Follows Department policy regarding phone etiquette, communicates effectively with patients, physicians, physician employees, personnel, and supervisors in the hospital to fulfill position responsibilities. 
3. Inventory Management-preparing orders for lab supplies requested by nursing units and outpatient client accounts.
4. Processing, delivery and proper storage of Pathology Specimens
5. Guidance to nursing staff and outpatient clients on specimen and test requirements when submitting for analysis.
6. Loading specimens for testing on laboratory equipment
