Description
SUMMARY: The Glassblower I will be instrumental in producing high-quality manual and automatic glass viscometers and other specialized glass products. This role involves mastering various glass blowing techniques and handling complex machinery to meet Cannon's standards of excellence. Ideal candidates will be meticulous, have a strong ability to learn technical processes, and maintain the highest safety and quality standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strictly abide by all safety and personal protection equipment (PPE) protocols.
- Understand and operate the essential tools and equipment in the Glass Shop, including but not limited to calipers, rulers, glass cutters, and torches.
- Acquire skills in glassblowing techniques such as making capillary seals and cleaning viscometers.
- Create common-sized Cannon Viscometer instruments as per the Cannon Glass Blower Glass Products Progression List.
- Learn and effectively use the Epicor system for logging into and out of jobs.
- Ensure the quality of glass products fits the progression standards detailed in the internal documentation.
- Master the cleaning processes specific to glassblowing and maintenance of a clean workspace.
- Understand and follow all processes and procedures in the Glass Shop.
- Assist Glass Shop Manager as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Minimum of 2 years in a Scientific Glass Blowing program or equivalent industry experience.
- Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts.
- Proficiency in using various tools and equipment provided in the Glass Shop.
- Knowledge of operating specific glass machinery (glass lathe, glass wet saw, glass wet belt sander).
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical prints.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Ability to learn and understand the safe use of Acetone and other chemicals.
- Ability to use tools such as calipers, rulers, glass cutters, various torches and torch tips, glass tapes, volume measuring stand, among others.
