The Financial Counselor collects payments, sets up payment arrangements as appropriate, sets up contracts on self-pay patients. Assesses patient referrals from hospitals and creates contracts as appropriate, helps facilitate cash patients with Medicaid Application for deliveries.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Answers the telephone and forwards any calls to appropriate individuals.
- Schedules and processes referrals.
- Schedules and records patient appointments, advises patients of any necessary standard instructions and instructs new patients on procedures. Records cancellations or no shows.
- Greets patients and other visitors, directing them appropriately (i.e., assisting them in signing in, completing registration forms, or to the appropriate individual).
- Prepares sign-in sheets
- Verifies insurance.
- Handles all revenue at the time of patient check-out; collects applicable co-pays; and completes receipts for patients.
- Schedules patient follow-up appointments.
- Follows telephone and email etiquette standards as outlined in Customer Service Policy.
- Communicates in a calm, respectful, timely, and clear manner; demonstrates a caring attitude; which promotes professional relationships.
- Acknowledges all patients, team members, physicians and the public with positive, friendly eye contact and greets everyone by name in a warm and friendly manner. Uses positive body language.
- Maintains an organized, clean and presentable office work area.
- Consistently provides excellent customer service as evidenced by patient, patient surveys, and/or co-worker comments.
- Maintains privacy and confidentiality.
- Follows UNLV Health policies and procedures.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
- Uses time clock, overtime and leave requests correctly and submits on time.
- Completes work within designated time.
- Adheres to dress code, including name badge. Maintains a neat and clean appearance.
- Assists with training of new personnel, as needed.
- Utilizes company resources responsibly, avoiding waste.
- Functions effectively in a Matrix Management environment.
- Completes any duties and special assignments as requested.

- Assist with incoming Referrals.
- Utilizes company resources responsibly, avoiding waste.
- Functions effectively in a Matrix Management Environment.
- Completes any duties and special assignments as requested.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalency.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1 Year Front Office Experience.
- 1 Year Financial Counseling experience in a healthcare environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- May include standing, sitting, and/or walking for extended periods.
- May include performing repetitive tasks.
- May include working on a special schedule (i.e. evenings and weekends with clients).
- May include working with challenging patients and clients.
- May include lifting up to 25 pound s.
