Job Purpose

The Transportation & Sourcing Manager is responsible for overseeing carrier relationships, sourcing strategies, and dispatch operations in a brokerage environment. This role ensures carrier capacity is aligned with organizational needs, manages rate negotiations, and drives profitability through optimized load planning and tracking. The manager also oversees freight compliance, ensures on-time pickup and delivery performance, and leads the use of transportation management software and related systems.

  • Leadership & Collaboration
  • Supervise, coach, and develop transportation team members, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Collaborate with operations, warehouse, and customer service teams to ensure smooth freight flow through cross-dock facilities.
  • Partner with Finance to track transportation costs, identify savings opportunities, and manage department budget.
  • Carrier Management & Sourcing
  • Develop and maintain strong carrier relationships across multiple regions.
  • Negotiate rates, bids, and contracts with carriers to optimize cost and service levels.
  • Source and secure carrier capacity to meet fluctuating demand and maximize load profitability.
  • Transportation Operations Management
  • Oversee transportation operations across multiple regions. 
  • Monitor and manage load pickup, arrival, and departure schedules to ensure efficiency and timeliness.
  • Proactively address delays, exceptions, and service issues to minimize disruption.
  • Ensure freight tracking accuracy and provide status updates to internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Compliance & Performance
  • Ensure all transportation operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Monitor carrier compliance with contractual terms, safety standards, and insurance requirements.
  • Analyze carrier performance data to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Uses vetting tools and process to ensure carriers stay compliant 
  • Technology & Process Oversight
  • Manage and oversee transportation management software (TMS) and related transportation tools.
  • Identify process improvements to enhance load planning, visibility, and profitability.
  • Provide training and support to transportation team members on system use and best practices.
  • Focus on continuous improvement with SOPs staying up to date.


Requirements

Physical demand

  • Ability to sit and type at computer station for long periods of time
  • Cross-dock environment with exposure to warehouse and yard operations.
  • Ability to operate/use call center style telephone
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment

Must be able to execute all the above functions and meet all the above demands safely, posing no threat to themselves or those around them while doing so, and must willingly comply with applicable safety regulations in the completion of all work.
