    Are you the accomplished Contract Manager that takes a leading role in paving the way for Vattenfall and its customers and partners towards a fossil free future?

    Then our project department of the Business Area Heat has an exciting opportunity for you!  Within the Business Area Customer Solutions, Vattenfall Heat UK focuses mainly on winning, building and operating larger District Heating Projects across the UK. We are looking for a commercially minded professional who will translate technical and contractual inputs into commercial results and identify/manage risks in changing and challenging environments and translate “the legal” to “the reality” and back, whilst staying on top of a multitude of contracts and the obligations contained within them.

    You will build strong relationships with peers, project teams, and work with Clients, advisors and other key stakeholders to ensure we deliver a sustainable and profitable portfolio of heat and energy projects. This work will be fundamental to our ability to develop and grow the Vattenfall Heat UK footprint in the UK.

    Your role: As a Contract Manager you will be playing a key role in formulating the contract strategy and placement and you coordinate in compiling the complete set of documentation for the Invitation to Tender (ITT) / Request for Quotation (RFQ) and for contract award and execution.

    You will provide expert advice on commercial and contract risks working alongside Procurement, Legal and the Engineering team. You are responsible for creating and amending contracts for our projects and then tracking those contracts through their lifecycles.

    You will be responsible for understanding, administering, interfacing and organizing all downstream contracts within our supply chain. You will be resolving contractual and commercial issues during project delivery, ensuring early identification and communication with the Project Manager & Team.

    In the completion phase you will formulate Lessons Learned based on contract execution experience. You will work with the Contracting and Commercial team to increase contracting standards across the business and will help upskill the project teams in contract management and administration. Ultimately your will form part of a contracting excellence team that will drive contracting standards across the business.

    Your tasks and responsibilities:

    • Correspondence with Contractors in relation to key contract and/or contractor deliverables
    • Responsible for strategy of dispute management
    • Production & presentation of project contractual and commercial reports in conjunction with the Project Manager Identify and mitigate potential contract risk in cooperation with the Project team
    • Evaluation and assessment of Contractor variation submissions or Contractor’s Loss & Expense claims Advise on contract terms to manage
    • Early identification of potential disputes & liaison with Legal department Ensure risks are “back to backed” in downstream from upstream contracts
    • Review of Invitation to Tender (ITT) documentation written by the Projects’ specialists
    • Drafting of contract particulars & negotiation of terms in conjunction with legal & Procurement departments
    Qualifications:

    Your profile: You're highly motivated to contribute to Vattenfall’s ambitions, you are a self-starter and goal-oriented individual with a sustainable vision for the future. 

    Your ability to understand the details and keep the big picture in mind will help you to drive projects and strike the right balance between “doing” and “steering”.

    As our Contract Manager you will bring:  An understanding of contract law, preferably including construction law (including commonly used UK Construction Contract form).

    Membership of an appropriate Professional Association.

    The ability to interface seamlessly between technical, commercial, operations, construction and legal specialists.

    The ability to build bridges between stakeholders in challenging projects.

    Next to this you bring: 

    • University degree or equivalent professional qualifications
    • Relevant experience within development of energy, infrastructure or wider construction projects, preferably within district heating.
    • Proven experience in contract and commercial management in complex projects, with a good understanding of risk management, preferably in the construction or energy sector Experience in UK construction environment such as energy, utilities, transport, residential or commercial development or infrastructure.
    • Experience of client, subcontractor and supply chain management, preferably with working knowledge of standard forms of contract: JCT, FIDIC, NEC.
