The Precision Tooling (PT) Department is based in Sydney and forms a part of the Global Supply Chain Engineering function.
Within the Precision Tooling Department, we are working to deliver high quality LSR injection moulds and automation to our internal customers using the latest industrial technology.
The CNC Team Leader is a hands‑on leader on the shop floor. They coordinate the daily work of CNC machinists and operators to execute the established manufacturing plan, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency. The role focuses on clear direction, team support, first‑line problem solving, and safe, reliable output - escalating issues promptly to Manufacturing Management and CAM when needed.
Let’s talk about Responsibilities
Lead daily CNC shop‑floor operations with a strong safety first mindset.
Conduct toolbox talks and enforce SWMS and operating procedures.
Allocate work to machinists and operators based on the issued plan and machine availability, providing clear instructions and priorities.
Coach and support team members on set‑ups, safe operation, and in‑process checks.
Monitor job progress, update job progress boards, and escalate delays or issues promptly.
Ensure adherence to work instructions, drawings, and quality standards (GD&T).
Coordinate first‑Quality Assurance (QA) checks and hold work if quality risks arise.
Maintain 6S standards, housekeeping, and safe walkways across CNC areas.
Oversee routine equipment maintenance and log machine faults for service.
Manage tooling and consumable inventory; request replenishment as needed.
Liaise with CAM, Tool Design, and Tool Delivery to resolve technical or workflow issues.
Keep accurate records of output, maintenance, hazards, and team training.
Identify and implement practical shop‑floor improvements (set‑up reduction, 6S, workflow).
Let’s talk about Qualifications and Experience
Experience leading a team in a machining/CNC environment (foreman, team leader, leading hand, or similar).
Trade qualification in Toolmaking/Machining (Cert III/IV or equivalent experience).
Sound working knowledge of CNC machining (e.g., multi‑axis milling/turning, EDM fundamentals), set‑ups, and safe operation.
Ability to read technical drawings and apply GD&T in practical checks.
Strong WHS knowledge; confident running toolbox talks and documenting hazards/incidents.
Clear communicator with practical problem solving.
Basic digital skills for job tracking and reporting.
Preferred Skills
Exposure to LSR tooling components and precision tolerances.
Experience supporting Quality Assurance processes and in‑process inspection.
Licences: Overhead crane, basic rigging/dogging (or willingness to obtain).
Familiarity with 6S/Lean basics and standard work on the shop floor.
