Duke Hospital (Pediatric Sleep Lab) Durham, North Carolina 

Work Schedule:

The training schedule for the first 90 days is:

Fridays 11 am-11:30 pm

Saturdays 6:30 pm-7 am

Sundays 6:30 pm-7 am

After 90 days you would select what 3 nights you would like to work as a permanent schedule. You can choose to work all 3 shifts back-to-back (like Sunday/Monday/Tuesday) or split it up (like Sunday/ Wednesday/Thursday).

General Summary 

Incumbents in this classification will participate in an approved apprentice or trainee program established by DUHS. These programs, developed in partnership with institutions of higher learning or professional organizations, require participants to work under the license, registry, or certification of a qualified trainer to develop competencies in their specialized area of study.  During this first 90 days you would work closely with a preceptor who will give you the hands on technical skills to complete a patient hook-up and basics of understanding the raw data that is collected during a sleep study. 

Work Performed

Goals and expectations will be clearly defined at the start of the program, as per program guidelines.

• Perform all responsibilities in a manner that demonstrates service excellence toward patients, physicians, peers, and other departments.

• Assume responsibility for upholding the policies and procedures of the department and organization.

• The specific nature of the apprenticeship will reflect the needs of the sponsoring organization, the learning goals of the student, and the needs of the healthcare institution.

• Through interactions with their clinical leader, apprentices will receive mentorship and support to ensure their success in the program.

• The program length is typically 12 to 18 months.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

• Pre-requisite coursework (varies based on the apprenticeship program).

Experience

• Experience in a hospital or health system is preferred.

• Required experience may vary based on program guidelines.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

• Required licensure and/or certification may vary based on program guidelines.
