Division Director - Civil Engineering - Virginia Beach, VA at Pennoni Associates

Pennoni Associates, a leading engineering and design consulting firm, is currently seeking a Division Director in our Virginia Beach, VA office. The Division Director is responsible for the growth and profitability of the engineering division and will assist with the growth of other divisions in the office. They will assist the Office Manager and Regional Vice Presidents (RVP) in achieving the Annual Business Plan targets and growth in their office. This includes coordination with the Annual Business Plan of the technology based region, if applicable.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the profitable operation of their division under their direct supervision within the office. Operations include office administration, coordinated business development and revenue generation, client contact, office/division management, cash and overhead management.
• Responsible for achieving short and long-term goals for operations, financial performance, and profitable growth.
• Responsible for marketing the firm’s services, developing and evaluating contracts, and serving as the firm’s responsible contact with specific clients.
• Acts as Practice Builder to provide leadership in planning, directing and implementing an aggressive, coordinated marketing/business plan to leverage existing relationships and develop new relationships to get additional work. Manages/expands existing client relationships and pursues new client relationships.
• Serves as principal in charge/project manager for major clients and provides leadership to staff assigned to the projects.
• Leads and manages accounts receivable collection efforts for geographic based divisions.
• Coordinates with the Chief Engineers, and other Office Directors on workforce planning and implementation and adherence with QA/QC/Safety procedures within the office.
• Coordinates with the RVP or, if applicable the RTP for the technology-based regions to enhance business development activities between regions.
• Attracts experienced staff members, who bring client relationships, strong technical credentials, and a solid reputation. Builds and develops a strong and effective team based upon Pennoni’s Code of Courtesy and Personal Conduct. Assist in leadership development of direct reports.
• Directs, plans, and manages the execution of division activities including budgets, sales, cash management and overhead management.

Reporting Relationships:

• The Division Director reports directly to the Office Manager.
• Direct reports include all Engineering staff in the office.
• The Division Director will coordinate with the Office Manager, RVP, Regional Technology Principal (RTP) and DM’s of the technology based regions on matters pertaining to the office.

Job Requirements: 

• Minimum of 15 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture or Planning, Masters preferred
• Proven success in the ability to lead and manage multi-disciplined services.
• Business development and marketing skills to assist in growing the backlog of engineering for the office.
• Other considerations: PE, LA, AICP, or a combination preferred
