Actors Fund Home, an assisted living, skilled nursing, accredited dementia care and sub-acute rehabilitation center located in Englewood, NJ, and a recipient of a CMS Five Star Rating seeks Assistant Director of Recreation to help plan, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive recreation program for our residents. The ideal candidate will support the Director of Recreation in managing daily operations, supervising staff, and ensuring programs meet the diverse interests and needs of our residents.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and provide a diversity of cognitive, physical, social; intellectual, spiritual, cultural and recreational programs consisting of group (on and off site), individual, and independent programs seven (7) days per week including some evenings. 
  • Develop a written monthly activities calendar at least two weeks prior to the first of the month
  • Implement recreational programs listed on the calendars in which you are assigned. Assure that residents are invited, encouraged to attend, and transported to and from activity programs.
  • On an ongoing basis, research and carry out best practices in the Activities field.  For example, provide opportunities for community integration, intergenerational programs, and other innovative programs that will serve our unique population of performing Arts and Entertainment Industry professionals.
  • This facility has converted to electronic medical records.  This position will assist with the department documentation and paperwork including:  Initial assessments, progress notes, attendance records, bus trip notes, one to one visits and other notes used to document Activities within the building.        Participate in developing, reviewing and revising the recreation portion of the care plan as well as attend the care plan meetings as needed.
  • Provide other AFH staff with guidance and consultation about providing recreational programs as necessary.
  • Assists in selected resident care (e.g. feeding or transferring) as necessary, once appropriately in-serviced.
  • Practice appropriate safety measures to prevent infection, accidents, or injury.
  • Help manage, train and support program coordinators and volunteers.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to recreation services.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred
  • Minimum of one-year senior living, hospice, subacute or skilled nursing experience in a therapeutic recreation and / or senior activities role.
  • Must have a driver’s license and a clean driver’s record
  • Must be available for weekend, evening and holiday work as required.

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with event planning and creating a monthly activity calendar.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Cooperative team player who demonstrates initiative in problem solving, and consistently follows through with tasks.
