About the Department
This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next twelve (12) months. Individuals interested in this position must submit an on-line application to Human Resources NO LATER THAN 5:00 PM ON THE POSTED CLOSING DATE.
THE SCORING: The candidate assessment is worth 100% of the total score. Human Resources reserves the right to set a cut off score from the candidate assessment in determining which candidates go forward to the physical ability exam and/or interview.
CANDIDATE ASSESSMENT: The candidate assessment can be accessed at the following link Clark County (publicsafetyanswers.com) and must be taken before the close of application October 14, 2025. There is a fee of $50 for participants.
The candidate assessment is a 15-45 minute, self-administered psychometric assessment. It measures reasoning and problem-solving skills, plus 25 traits, or dimensions of personality, intended to measure an individual’s characteristics for the purpose of determining the best fit for employment in a specific position.

Position Duties
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and successful completion of candidate assessment, physical agility test and interviews.
All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application. All details must be written in your own words and cannot be copied from job descriptions or other external sources.
Medical/Suitability Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination to include a pulmonary test, and a psychological evaluation performed by our examining physician.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
License: Must possess a valid Class C Nevada driver's license.
Background Check: Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check.
Note: It is a condition of employment that any fire service employee hired into the Fire Department after January 1, 1993, not use tobacco in any form.
Minimum Qualifications
It is not to be assumed that each example listed shall be performed by all employees, nor that any one employee shall perform only the examples listed.
- Performs various fire fighting activity initially working under the direct supervision of a Fire Fighter, and attends classroom instruction on the techniques of fire fighting, equipment operation and maintenance and fire inspection and prevention.
- As required, responds to fire situations; lays and connects fire hoses; holds nozzles and directs fog or water streams; raises and climbs ladders; uses chemical extinguisher, power driven tools, bars, hooks, and lines.
- Assists firefighters in providing for ventilation of burning structures, removing people from danger, and performing salvage duties.
- Accompanies other fire personnel in the performance of periodic inspection and fire prevention duties; inspects and performs minor repairs to hydrants, fire fighting equipment and apparatus.
- May provide first aid to injured people.
- May participate in County-wide prevention programs by giving talks and showing films at schools and various group meetings.
- Inspects and monitors hazardous material sites.
- Participates in fire drills and attends regular classes in fire fighting, fire prevention, equipment maintenance and related subjects.
- Will be required to complete trainings and continue education classes as per department direction.
- Performs similar and related duties as required.
Other Qualifications
Physically and mentally fit to perform vigorous basic skill requirements. Height in proportion to weight. Vision must be correctable and within the guidelines specified in order to hold a current Nevada Driver's License.
