MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership to the Maintenance team by exhibiting Newport Aquarium values of patient, kind, humble, trusting, unselfish, forgiving, truthful, dedicated, team player and innovative
  • Provide appropriate onboarding, training, coaching and evaluation for all maintenance leads and technicians
  • Take the lead in prioritizing the workflow and project schedule to ensure the team is working on the highest priorities
  • Manage the schedules, approve time off requests and ensure proper coverage. Administer the timekeeping responsibilities for the department and ensure all necessary paperwork is turned in on time
  • Review standard operating procedures and safety protocol annually and ensure compliance
  • Review and update safety training plans annually and ensure safety standards are acknowledged by all hosts monthly
  • Responsible for purchase card transactions, purchase order process, receiving the proper number of bids on work and items for purchase, etc.
  • Audit the facilities regularly and ensure that safety risks are mitigated, and preventive maintenance is being done proactively
  • Seek out better, cheaper, more efficient ways to do work
  • Competence in the operation of and ability to train others in tool operation is required
  • Maintain open communications with a variety of different departments
  • Speak with confidence, provide realistic timelines and being open to new ways of thinking about work
  • Take ownership of the facility and be one of the first to respond when something goes wrong in one of the facilities
  • Set precedence for and enforce clean, safe work environments
  • The ability to create and maintain inventory / maintenance logs
  • Manage projects and outside contractors, which will include daily or routine vendors at both the Aquarium and out offsite building(s)

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Leadership – The ability to inspire and motivate others to perform well and accepts feedback from others
  • Real-world experience managing and leading a team of Maintenance professionals
  • Experience with high-volume attraction facilities is a plus
  • OSHA knowledge and experience as well as certifications is a plus
  • Working knowledge of building trades, including electrical, plumbing, construction, and HVAC systems

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening and background check including driving record search
  • In good health and capable of performing strenuous and/or heavy physical labor
  • No history of allergies related to animals or plants, which might interfere with ability to work
  • Ability to remain on your feet for long periods of time, climb stairs, bend and stoop
  • Ability to climb ladders, step ladders, scaffolding to heights of 25’
  • Physical strength, including ability to lift up to 50lbs

 

Note: Position will involve exposure to nut allergens, inclement weather, dust, potentially dangerous and unpredictable animal species, and potentially dangerous machinery, restraint devices and toxic chemicals and/or drugs. Occasional use of protective clothing or equipment is required e.g. goggles, mask, gloves, and gowns.
