General Statement of Job: This position maintains unit files as well as assists doctors with their daily tasks. Employees are responsible for the monitoring and reporting of the cardiac (telemetry) monitors.
Essential Functions:
- Records and updates information obtained from patient monitors as data is received.
- Performs printing of all lab orders, radiological procedure, respiratory orders, dietary and social service consults, as well as all physicians' orders into the unit's computer system in a timely and accurate manner.
- Reviews office supply inventory for unit and orders office supplies as needed.
- Organizes patient charts as necessary.
- Monitors patient EKG strips for potential problems and notifies appropriate patient care provider if issue is identified.
Responds to both written and telephone concerns and inquiries from the public, other personnel, and outside agencies; resolves the concern or directs to appropriate entities. Places telephone calls to physicians and ancillary department employees to coordinate patient care.
- Performs duties with an understanding of Lakeside Medical Center policies and procedures and unit standards for performing care. Adjusts care to meet the needs of the patient population served as qualified, i.e., adult, and geriatric patient.
- Recognizes cultural differences with patients and adjusts care and approaches to patients to make them feel safe and valued.
- Follows infection control standards in the performance of all patient procedures, demonstrating adherence to hand washing policy.
- Demonstrates understanding of The Joint Commission Safety Goals and delivers care with patient safety as a goal. Ensures all patients have identification band on at all times.
- Communicates effectively with other patient care providers and team members to coordinate patient procedures, as well as, for efficiencies and safety of patient care.
- Answers call lights quickly and provide assistance to patients as needed by notifying the primary nurse in a prompt manner.
- Reports any unusual occurrences or untoward signs and symptoms to the charge nurse quickly, including timely reporting of vital signs out of EKG strip changes.
- Initiates CPR and Code Blue procedures immediately as required.
- Utilizes supplies efficiently, following infection control procedures, avoiding waste and follows patient charging procedures.
- Ensures the units pantry, supply rooms, linen shelves, equipment, and nurses'' stations are clean and orderly.
- Utilizes equipment safely and as directed by policies and instruction. Reports any identified equipment breakdown or malfunction by hospital policy. Maintains cleanliness of equipment after use.
- Assists in preparing patients for tests and procedures, including ensuring NPO status.
- Performs duties as a team member - communicating effectively and assisting co-workers as possible to ensure efficient and safe care.
- Assists in the orientation of new staff members recognizing importance of bringing new staff into a friendly and supportive work environment.
- Works with manager and other staff members to maintain competence and skills for procedures assigned.
- Attends annual in-services and unit staff meetings and/or educational offerings.
- Particapates with team members and manager to identify opportunities for improvement in patient care processes and has enthusiasm for needed changes in processes or systems.
- Demonstrates understanding and commitment to the hospital mission, philosophy, standards, policies and procedures. Recognizes all staff, physicians and visitors, as well as patients as customers and provides courteous and respectful service.
- Documents and reports any complaints from patients/visitors/physicians to supervisor.
- Participates in the cleanliness of the work environment.
- Maintains records and communications in respect of patient's privacy.
- Assists team members and manager in identifying opportunities for improvement in patient care processes.
- Demonstrates an understanding of responsibility in emergency plans and is available for patient care as needed or scheduled when hospital emergency preparedness plans are activated.
- Participates in hospital community activities and promotes the hospital within the community.
- Serves as a change leader, positively promoting new systems and changes implemented which improves the hospital and the service provided to its patients.
- Participates in the hospital goals for growth by being an example of good service to patients in our community and in assisting physicians and other team members.
Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.

Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience:
Minimum six (6) months to one (1) year monitor tech experience preferred.
Certification:
Basic EKG interpretation Completion certificate required.
CPR certification required.
