The Department of Classics at Hillsdale College invites applications for two tenure-track positions, beginning in August 2026. The rank and specialization(s) are both open. A passion for the classroom, as well as an ability to teach broadly, are a must. Scholarly research and output are valued, but priority will be given to proven success in the classroom.
The main responsibility of the successful candidates will be to teach Latin and Greek from an introductory to an advanced level, including undergraduate seminars on Latin or Greek literature. Candidates must also be prepared to design and offer engaging courses in translation on Greek and Roman civilization, aimed at both Classics majors and the general student population (including classes that contribute to the college’s core curriculum). The teaching load is 3/3, and all classes are at the undergraduate level. In addition to working within the classics department, successful candidates will be expected to participate in the wider life of the college via collaboration, service, and professional development. Ability to contribute to Hillsdale’s external initiatives (such as K-12 education and other forms of outreach) is especially welcome. Candidates should have a PhD in Classics or have a PhD by August 2026 and must already be eligible to work in the United States.
