The general role for the CNC Lathe Machine Operator is to load feed mechanism by lifting stock into position and to verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces and to adhere that quality assurance procedures and processes are in accordance with the international standards. It shall be noted that LIN SCAN has Subsidiaries around the world and although the CNC Operator reports to the Machine shop supervisor, the responsibility of the CNC Operator is to ensure that all tasks related to his scope of work are executed according to the HSE standards as well as to the plan, corporate standards and policy approved by the Corporate Office.
Key Responsibilities & Authorities
- To load feed mechanism by lifting stock into position
- To verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhere to international standards
- To maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; take measurements; detect malfunctions; troubleshoot processes; adjust and reprogram controls; sharpen and replace worn tools
- To provide independently setup jobs on CNC lathes
- To adhere to quality assurance procedures and processes
- To plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters
- To interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
- To plan stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipate needed stock; place and expedite orders for stock; verify receipt of stock or inform supervisor
- To produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine
- To maintain equipment and supplies
- To maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
- To maintain cleanliness by housekeeping the work space.
- To maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; follows manufacturer's instructions; troubleshoot malfunctions; calling for repairs
- To maintain continuity among work shifts by communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
- To update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; read technical publications
- High School Diploma or higher from technical specialization
- Certification from accredited technical school
- Strong CNC machining background
- Min 2 years’ experience of working different materials stainless steel, aluminum and castings
- Stress resistant
- Good verbal communication skills (in English – desirable)
