ABOUT THE POSITION

TLEA is is welcoming applications for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Projects Ramp Up team on a max term contract based at our Kwinana plant. This role is critical in supporting the safe and efficient operation of our lithium hydroxide processing facility by leading mechanical engineering projects and driving continuous improvement.
The successful applicant will be responsible for managing and executing mechanical engineering projects, developing maintenance strategies, and providing technical support to ensure plant reliability and performance.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Lead mechanical design and technical assessments for assigned debottlenecking modification projects, including piping, pressure equipment, rotating machinery, and mechanical packages.
•    Review and approve mechanical related engineering deliverables such as datasheets, equipment specifications, layout drawings, tie-in details, and calculations.
•    Ensure all mechanical designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, TLK engineering practices, and operational requirements.
•    Coordinate with multi-discipline engineering teams (process, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation) to ensure integrated design outcomes.
•    Support procurement through preparation of technical specifications, evaluation of vendor submissions, and review of vendor documentation.
•    Participate in HAZOPs, constructability reviews, and risk assessments to ensure safe and practical implementation of mechanical designs.
•    Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
•    Engage with operations and maintenance teams to ensure mechanical solutions are maintainable and aligned with site strategy.

 

 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in mechanical engineering roles, including brownfield and project-based work in resource or chemical processing industries.
  • Sound understanding of Australian Standards (e.g., AS1210, AS4041, ASME) and engineering practices relevant to process plants.
  • Proven experience in pressure equipment, piping systems, rotating equipment, and layout design.
  • Experience reviewing 3D models, mechanical drawings, and design deliverables.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Safety-focused mindset with an ability to balance technical integrity and practical constructability.
  • Experience in lithium or hydrometallurgical plant environments (desirable).
  • Familiarity with document systems such as M-files, Aconex, and Management of Change (MOC) processes (desirable).
  • Experience working in EPCM delivery environments or client-side project teams (desirable).
  • Exposure to commissioning and plant performance testing (desirable).

LOCATION

TLEA proudly acknowledges and the Whadjuk and Gnaala Karla Boodja people of the Noongar Nation, as the traditional custodians of the Kwinana area, where we operate our plant. 
Kwinana is 38 km from the Perth central business district, 20 km from City of Fremantle and just 7km from Rockingham.
