Position: Assistant Resident Engineer_Bridge Construction Projects in New York City
Reports to: Project Manager

Technical Responsibilities:
Assist the Resident Engineer and Project Manager with the following duties:
- Manage daily field inspection activities in accordance with NYCDOT standards, procedures, and project specifications.
- Assist the Resident Engineer in administering construction contracts on NYCDOT bridge projects.
- Attend and coordinate contractor progress meetings and prepare related documentation.
- Review and respond to contractor Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and shop drawings with input from design staff, ensuring NYCDOT compliance.
- Verify that all work is performed in accordance with NYCDOT-approved Work Zone Traffic Control (WZTC) plans and maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT) standards.
- Conduct field inspections to verify materials, workmanship, and progress conform to NYCDOT contract requirements.
- Prepare daily inspection reports, Resident Engineer diaries, and monthly progress reports for submittal to NYCDOT.
- Monitor contractor schedules and track progress against project milestones.
- Assist in the processing of change orders, contractor payments, punch lists, and project close-out documentation in accordance with NYCDOT procedures.
- Coordinate field activities with NYCDOT Bridge Inspection Units, Office of Construction Mitigation and Coordination (OCMC), and other city agencies.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols per NYCDOT, OSHA, and site-specific safety plans.
- Maintain project documentation in accordance with NYCDOT Construction Management Manual (CMM) and auditing standards.
- Engage with community boards, elected officials, and the public, supporting NYCDOT outreach and communication efforts.
- Respond promptly to NYCDOT and KSE management requests or concerns.
Educational Qualifications/Professional Licenses
- BS or MS in Civil Engineering or related field from ABET accredited school.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in New York State required.
- OSHA 10 Safety Awareness Training certificate.
- Certifications such as ACI, SAT, TCP, NACE, AWS, and OSHA 30 hours are highly desired.
Requirements
Experience:
- 5-10 years of relevant experience in construction inspection or management of infrastructure construction projects.
- At least 3 – 5+ years as a construction inspector or chief inspector on NYSDOT or NYCDOT major bridge projects.
- Prior experience in the reconstruction/rehabilitation of roadways and highways, utility work, as well as installation and replacement of sewers and water mains.
- Prior experience with NYCDOT preferred.
General Qualities:
- Strong written and oral communication skills to lead the construction inspection staff.
- Proactive self-starter capable of setting a positive example for the staff.
- Provides technical and management support to the Department Manager/Regional Manager/Project Manager.
- Has full technical and administrative responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating projects/assignments.
- Manages a major complex project and/or several routines/fewer complex projects.
