Primary Accountability

The Ultrasound Technician is responsible for performing all scheduled or unscheduled ultrasound examinations, ordered by a licensed provider.

Description of Primary Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for performing ultrasound examinations, ordered by a licensed provider.
    • Prepares room, equipment, and necessary paperwork.
    • Prepares the patient for the examination and explains the procedure to the patient.
    • Produces images and ultrasonic recordings of internal body tissues.
    • Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information and images.
    • Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings.
    • Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate Clinician. 
    • Follows protocols and guidelines to ensure accurate and high-quality images.
    • Reports equipment failures and participates in quality assurance.
    • Places patient identification and markers on images.
    • Collaborates with Clinicians to provide necessary imaging support for patient care.
    • Inventories and order supplies.
    • Maintains Patient Daily Log.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Professional & Technical Knowledge:

  1. Requires High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Successful completion of a formal program of education specific to the ultrasound profession with a minimum of 1,440 hours of externship training. This requirement does not apply to candidates holding a certification in Radiologic Technology. 

Technical Skills:

  1. Ability to prepare basic correspondence and simple reports in Microsoft Word.
  2. Ability to use Microsoft Excel to create tables and simple displays of information. 

Licenses & Certifications: 

  1. Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer preferred but not mandatory. 
  2. Certification as an ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) Sonographer is preferred but not mandatory.
  3. Current BLS/CPR Certification

Communications Skills:

  1. Job duties require the employee to effectively communicate complex and/or technical information to co-workers and others.
  2. Employees are expected to exercise tact and diplomacy in the resolution of mild conflicts or disagreements.
  3. Requires the effective communication of written information including electronic correspondence. 
  4. Bilingual skills preferred.

Physical Demands: Moderate risk even with controls in place (sharp objects, etc.).

 

Pay Range:

Min Hourly Rate: $32.68

Max Hourly Rate: $45.10
