Description
The Digital Storyteller is a public relations position for the digital age that balances the strategic demands of media relations with the energy to drive vibrant social media campaigns.

This team member will strengthen our work with a keen eye for visual storytelling and the writing skills to craft narratives that inspire action. The ideal candidate is passionate about telling the authentic story of the Anderson University experience through social media content, press releases, media pitches, videos, photos, newsletters, advertising, and other communications. They will play a key role in building and protecting the university’s reputation with students, families, alumni, and the wider community.
The position can be full time or part time, to meet the work life balance needs for the right candidate.
Responsibilities include
Social media and digital engagement
- Lead strategy, content planning, and execution across social media platforms.
- Manage day-to-day posting, engagement, and monitoring of AU’s social channels.
- Track and analyze performance metrics to optimize reach, engagement, and brand impact.
Public relations:
- Develop and execute media relations strategies that showcase Anderson University’s mission, people, and achievements.
- Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and feature stories.
Content Generation
- Create compelling multimedia content, including photography, video, graphics, and digital storytelling assets.
- Write and edit high-quality copy for email marketing campaigns, newsletters, print materials, websites, and advertising scripts.
- Collaborate with colleagues to capture authentic moments and experiences that highlight the AU community.
- Leverage AI-powered tools to brainstorm ideas, generate first drafts, optimize content for different audiences, and streamline multimedia production while maintaining authenticity and brand voice.
- Stay current with emerging AI technologies for writing, design, and media production, evaluating how they can enhance creativity and efficiency.
Strong collaborator and thought leader
- Partner with faculty, staff, and students to identify and share meaningful stories that support recruitment, retention, and advancement.
- Be a creative thinker and present ideas to support the brand and institutional storytelling initiatives. Learn and keep the department current with trending opportunities and challenges.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Journalism, PR, Marketing or Digital Media required.
- Master's Degree in a related field is a plus but not required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in PR, digital communications, marketing or media relations
- Proven experience in social media management
- Hands-on experience with multimedia storytelling including video production, photography, graphic design or interactive digital content.
- Experience drafting press releases, newsletters and other communications materials.
- Experience using analytics and monitoring tools to track engagement reach and impact of campaigns.
- Comfortable working in a fast paced environment and managing multiple projects at once.
Preferred/Additional Skills:
- Knowledge of higher education communications or nonprofit PR is a plus
- Proficiency using tolls like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Hootsuite, or similar platforms.
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills with attention to tone, clarity and style.
- Creative and ability to translate complex ideas into compelling narratives.
