Martial Arts Instructor at YMCA of Rock River Valley

POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position may be expected to support all branches. The Martial Arts Instructor will coach, teach and facilitate martial arts programs and classes for both youth and adults with the YMCA of Rock River Valley. The instructor is responsible for the development and implementation of department objectives, curriculum and program sessions.The Martial Arts Instructor facilitates relationship-based, quality programs, and instructional classes that deeply engage members in the YMCA.

• You'll support the commitment of the YMCA to child abuse prevention by:
• Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor.
• Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
• Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
• Complete all child abuse prevention training as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Organizes, plans and delivers an inclusive curriculum for all members and participants at all ability levels.
2. Supervises the safe use of related sporting equipment.
3. Conducts safe modified lessons for all abilities.
4. Encourages diligence, adherence to sporting guidelines, and sportsmanship.
5. Builds effective, authentic relationships with athletes and helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
6. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures regarding but not limited to emergency and safety. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
7. Organizes and maintains needed class supplies and equipment. Reports damaged equipment promptly.
8. Ensures a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity and inclusion throughout programming.
9. Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.
10. Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Rock River Valley.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma preferred.
• Background in martial arts required. Experience in specified format required.
• YMCA Leader certification preferred.
• Ability to oversee, motivate and inspire participants of all abilities.
• Ability to display passion, enthusiasm and support for the mission and values of the YMCA.
• Praesidium Academy trainings required.
• CPR & First Aid/AED Certifications required within 90 days.
• Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
• Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

1 Position
Part Time, Non-Exempt

Fridays 6:00 - 7:00 pm
$15.00 per hour
