Position Summary

This position is responsible for general cleaning of assigned locations and areas, including daily maintenance duties, such as cleaning bathrooms, living quarters, public areas, floors; dusting, mopping, vacuuming, disinfecting; and scheduled cleaning such as shampooing carpets, stripping, buffing and waxing of floors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Clean residence hall restrooms as needed
• Collect trash in public areas daily
• Strip and wax tile floors
• Vacuum all public area carpet
• Shampoo carpets as scheduled
• Sweep and mop all tile floors in public area
• Clean all glass surfaces
• Dust and polish furniture
• Deep clean assigned areas when vacant (e.g., apartments, residence halls, common areas)
• Buff floors with hi-speed buffer
• Disinfect water fountains
• Wipe off any appliances in assigned location (e.g., washers and dryers)
• Move furniture and clean behind it regularly
• Wash walls
• Maintain Inventory of cleaning supplies and stocking supplies.
• It is expected that all the custodial staff will assist each other as required and as availability permits.
• Other duties as assigned or required

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Must understand and support the Mission, Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and possess the following:

Education: High School Diploma Required

Work Experience: Prior cleaning experience is considered helpful but not required. On-the-job training is available for knowledge and experience necessary to perform this job satisfactorily

Skills and abilities:

• Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff and faculty.  Positive attitude a must.
• It is expected that all the custodial staff will assist each other as required and as availability permits.
• Knowledge of cleaning solutions and chemicals is helpful.
• Knowledge related to cleaning procedures on special surfaces (for example, gym floors) useful.
• Ability to operate floor care machinery is required.
• Ability to work independently to complete assigned daily tasks, must be self-driven.

• Able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
• Needs to be able to stand for long periods of time
• Requires repeated pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, kneeling and overhead work.
• Some exposure to dust and fumes
• Ability to occasionally move furniture for cleaning purposes.
