Policy and Advocacy Coordinator
Status: Full-time, exempt
Salary: $60,000-$65,000 with Benefits
Location: Main office in Raleigh, NC; (position is hybrid (2 days in office and 3 WFH), requires frequent travel across the the Triangle.

About the position: NCAAT is seeking a full-time Policy and Advocacy Coordinator to broaden and support our efforts to inform, educate, and engage the AAPI community in North Carolina through candidate and issue-based research, policy tracking, and advocacy. The ideal candidate will take ownership of key campaigns, drive advocacy initiatives, and support research and logistical efforts across multiple areas, ensuring that organizational goals are met and the voices of the Asian American community in NC are amplified. The Policy and Advocacy Coordinator will work closely with NCAAT staff, across all programs and departments, collaboratively. They will report to the Head of Education and Political Engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Own and execute the following campaigns:
- Vote-By-Mail Campaign:
- Implement a comprehensive campaign to educate, engage, and mobilize absentee voters.
- Plan and execute vote-by-mail clinics.
- Develop and implement diverse voter outreach strategies, including informational mailers, infographics, phone banking, clinics, and office hours.
- Oversee campaign operations, assign tasks to team members, and ensure timelines and deliverables are met.
Assist with executing NCAAT/IA’s Education and Political Engagement programming:
- Planning and Logistics:
- Support NCAAT/IA’s Education and Political Engagement programming by assisting with related projects and initiatives
- Plan and implement assigned projects with guidance and direction from the Head of Education and Political Engagement
- Represent the organization in coalition meetings as needed.
- Legislative Support:
- Monitor and analyze local, state, and federal bills, legislative movements, and court decisions related to democracy reform, immigration, and other policy issue areas related to the concerns & needs of the AAPI community.
- Utilize legislative tracking software to identify and flag opportunities for organizational engagement.
- Assist in creating systems to effectively track and manage bill and court decisions.
- Advocacy Campaign Support:
- Collaborate with the Communications and Political teams to draft letters and advocacy materials.
- Partner with the Data team to develop scripts and other campaign-related resources.
- Candidate Tracking and Research:
- Maintain and update a candidate filing spreadsheet, ensuring accurate and timely information.
- Conduct background research for the endorsement review process and leadership pipeline development.
- Accurately track candidate applications and schedule interviews.
- Election and Policy Research:
- Compile research to support the Education and Political Engagement programs and other organizational stakeholders as needed.
- Establish efficient processes for tracking and sharing candidate and election-related information.
- Team Collaboration:
- Participate in weekly staff, Education, and Political Engagement team meetings, providing legislative and political updates.
- Participate in cross-organizational events and initiatives as needed.
