Position Summary: The main responsibility of the assistant coach is to assist the head coach in recruiting student athletes, administering the sports program in accordance with the policies of Calumet College of St. Joseph along with assisting in retaining the student athlete for their full educational commitment. This is a part-time position and the assistant coach is expected to spend a majority of their time (at least 75%) in student coaching and teaching activities with the remaining time (no more than 25%) spent on recruitment and team travel activities.


Duties specific to the sport of Dance:

  • Valid U.S Driver’s License to drive vans to and from games and or practices.
  • Assist with planning and conducting team practices, skill development, and conditioning sessions.
  • Provide in-competition coaching and strategic support during events.
  • Support recruitment efforts by identifying, evaluating, and communicating with prospective student-athletes.
  • Promote a culture of academic achievement and personal development among student-athletes.
  • Ensure adherence to all college, conference, and or NAIA rules and regulations.
  • Help with administrative duties such as travel coordination, equipment management, and program budgeting.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with athletes, staff, faculty, and community stakeholders.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to student-athletes, promoting respect, integrity, and teamwork.

  • Ability to cooperate with other coaches, athletic department staff, faculty and staff to provide the optimum intercollegiate experience for the student athlete.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of the role of athletics within a private, Catholic liberal arts setting.

  • Knowledge and understanding of organizational goals and objectives, policies and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Consistently demonstrate strong, positive and productive leadership skills.
  • Assist with administering the sports program in accordance with the policies and procedures of CCSJ.
  • Assist the head coach with coordinating the scheduling commitments throughout the season.
  • Assist head coach with training plans for all student athletes committed to the sport (pre-season, in-season, post-season).
  • Collaborate creatively with hands-on fundraising opportunities for the Athletic Department and the sport.
  • Encourage cooperation and teamwork.
  • Assist with development of various camps/clinics during the year to help promote the program and the College.
  • Assure all student athletes have a quality collegiate academic and athletic experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree preferred 
  • Currently holds proper coaching certifications or willing to acquire the certifications
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certified 
  • 1-3 years’ college coaching and recruiting experience or extensive high school coaching preferred
