Additional Information: Show/Hide The Adult Education Instructor works as part of a team to deliver curriculum based upon competencies necessary to complete high school equivalency in RI. The overall goal of the program is to provide low-income, unemployed, and/or low-skilled clients with learning opportunities to help them succeed in job training, enter the workforce, and/or access mainstream employment services, while preparing them to complete their GED. This job requires the candidate to be skillful at making students comfortable with participating in the program and being part of the class.
Each instructor is responsible for creating weekly lesson plans to address the specific needs of students in their class while preparing them to complete course levels. Instructors must use a variety of materials and teaching strategies including authentic materials. In addition to traditional course work, instructors will provide lessons for their students on topics such as goal setting and job readiness and regularly assess and communicate with students, referral sources and others (as appropriate) about progress in the program. Timely completion of all student/program related documentation, reports and paperwork is essential. Instructor must maintain proper, updated, student records, motivate students to stay in school and maintain attendance levels (including regular emails, phone calls, etc.). S/he will maintain confidentiality of client information, processes and data which could be damaging if not properly safeguarded.
REQUIREMENTS: 1.Experience in teaching and/or working with adults in an educational setting and working knowledge of current practices in adult education is required. 2.A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required, a degree in education is strongly preferred, as is a background in teaching reading strategies. 3.Instructors must be knowledgeable and comfortable teaching at least two subjects that are part of the GED, including: Math, English Language Arts; Writing, Social Studies and Science. 4.Proven effective verbal and written communication skills 5.Ability to work effectively independently as well as a member of a team and be organized and prepared for all classes. 6.Instructors must commit to participating in professional development sessions.
