The following noninstructional vacancy is listed in Human Resources for the 2025-2026 school year.
YULEE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 1 Health Paraprofessional
RANGE OF PAY:$16.07/hr - $17.80/hr (Additional compensation from the Millage initiative will be awarded annually. For the 2025-2026 school year, the amount to be determined by NESPA bargaining and ratification and will be prorated from July 1, 2025. The amount for the 2024-2025 school year was $5,473.)
QUALIFICATIONS: (1) A high school diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of study at an accredited postsecondary institution; or an Associate’s degree or higher; or passed a rigorous examination demonstrating knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics. (2) Type at prescribed rate of speed. (3) Computer proficiency. (4) Certified in CPR and First Aid or become certified within 90 days of employment. Desirable qualifications which will be given additional weighted consideration:
Completion of a training program to become a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse; or
One year of experience in providing nursing or direct patient care services of a medical nature in a public health, medical or clinical laboratory; hospital; clinic; infirmary; or nursing or convalescent home; or
Completion of a training program to become a medical assistant.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: *(1) Administers first aide to sick and injured students according to District and State Guidelines. *(2) Coordinate and perform vision, hearing, height, weight, scoliosis and pediculosis screenings and inform parents as necessary. *(3) Annotate results of screenings on records. *(4) Dispense medicines as prescribed by student’s physicians in compliance with State guidelines and observe student’s medication reactions. *(5) Performs first aid procedures and change trauma-related dressings when necessary. *(6) Collect bio-hazardous material in appropriate container for disposal and collection by Nassau County. *(7) Make appropriate referrals and assist in follow-up of all referrals. *(8) Review emergency cards and parent permission slips. *(9) Review cumulative school health records. *(10) Prepare class rosters, referral forms and immunization certificates. (11) Participate in Disaster Preparedness activities and other medical emergencies affecting the school and community. *(12) Recognize and practice safety and security procedures including safe use of medical equipment, safety hazards, proper body mechanics, fire safety, and safe procedures for receiving and observing students in the health room. *(13) Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of infection control and practice aseptic techniques. *(14) Stays informed on school health policy, law and standards by attending in-service programs and staff meetings as required. *(15) Demonstrate employability skills including:
Appropriate affective/professional behavior.
Acceptable attendance and punctuality.
Understands and follows chain of command.
Accept constructive criticism from supervisors.
Maintains appropriate appearance.
*(16) Maintain proper documentation of Health Room activities:
Use of basic medical terminology and abbreviations.
Daily health room logs.
Individual health room visit cards.
Incident reports.
Cumulative health records.
Behavior evaluation forms.
High risk list.
Medication administration logs.
Other data as needed.
*(17) Hold valid unrestricted Florida Driver’s License and has use of private automobile to perform these duties. *(18) Other health related duties as may be assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force a frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed.
