Job Summary:

The PC Technician provides setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance for endpoint computer hardware, Microsoft Windows operating system support, desktop application software, printers, endpoint peripheral hardware, and city iPhones.

Experience, Education, and Skills: 

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's degree

  • One (1) to two (2) years of relevant experience

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license

OR 

Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Detailed knowledge in a specialized field such as accounting, programming, computer science, marketing, forestry, etc.

  • Requires the ability to selectively extract, verify, and compile data and/or operate specialized equipment to produce results. 

  • Microsoft Experience with complicated practices and precedents.

  • Typically requires a basic understanding and application of theoretical or scientific principles, acquired through college education or advanced vocational skills strengthened by years of on-the-job experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Troubleshoots hardware and software issues.

  • Support of end users via ticketing system and related service requests.

  • Shares rotation of 9300 call center phone support.

  • Install or upgrade software.

  • Manages and schedules endpoint software patching.

  • Assists in maintaining hardware inventory.

  • Service desk ticketing, support, questions, and research within IT and the City as a whole.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Travel:  

  • Occasional travel locally to site visits; possible travel to training and certification opportunities.   

Work Environment:  

  • Employee is subject to working alone, with groups, and/or attending meetings.

  • May be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings.

  • Frequent interruptions and be required to manage competing priorities with inflexible deadlines.

  • Frequent contact occurs with employees and the public, in person, and on the telephone.

  • Frequently is required to sit and talk or hear customers.

  • Work is safe to having minimal hazards that are typically found in a general office environment where there is rarely little or no exposure to injury or accident.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks.
  • Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
  • PC set up, tear down or move, may involve temporarily moving furniture.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to read computer keyboards, reference books, and other written documents.
  • Ability to communicate with the public via telephone and in person.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to input, retrieve, and verify work assignments in the computer.
